Fueling Brains is focused around early childhood education and implemented in early learning programs for infants and toddlers as well as preschools. Recently, schools have been adopting it for Kindergarten as well.
Question: How does this curriculum set the students up better for success in elementary school?
The Fueling Brains curriculum focuses on brain development and promoting executive function skills which are working memory, cognitive flexibility and inhibitory control. Brain development plays a significant role in how a child learns and their ability to succeed in school. Executive function skills are a set of mental processes that enable children to organize their thinking and behavior with intention and flexibility. Executive function development begins in infancy through adolescence but has a rapid growth in between ages 3-5 (preschool age). These skills will lay the foundation for school readiness.
Question: How would you describe the Fueling Brains curriculum to someone that knows little about education?
Basically, we are teaching the children how to learn, not what to learn.
The Fueling Brains approach involves left brain learning, right brain learning and movement. In the Left brain classroom, the focus is on independent learning and teaching a certain skill. When the students go to the Right brain classroom, they are applying the skill that they learned in the Left brain classroom while being creative and working in groups. The movement aspect is based on the concept that physical development and cognitive learning go hand-in-hand. Some children learn best while moving!
Question: What is the best reason to enroll a child in PreK?
Studies show that a high-quality early education affects the outcome of later cognitive skills and behavior in elementary and can reduce the gaps in school readiness. Preschool offers students their first school experience and prepares them for Kindergarten. This includes school readiness skills, social skills, peer relationships, developing independence, structure, routines, procedures and the list goes on.
Question: What other information you think would be important to tell someone out MVE PreK?
In my previous years as a preschool teacher, students have made a lot of progress with behavior and academics. But this year using this curriculum, we have seen more results and at a faster rate. It is amazing!
